Flight crew union to consider TAP proposal ahead of planned strike

Week-long strike due to start on January 25

SNPVAC, Portugal’s national civil aviation flight staff union has called an emergency general meeting for next Thursday (January 19) to consider a proposal put forward by TAP ahead of the latest strike scheduled from January 25-31.

A note sent out to SNPVAC members today, says “at the request of the Board of Directors” TAP associates are called to meet in an emergency general meeting, on January 19 at 10:00 am at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel.

According to the note, the sole point on the agenda will be the “presentation, discussion and voting on the proposal presented by TAP”.

On Monday, SNVPAC announced that it would be going ahead with the week-long strike – and TAP said it would be doing everything it could to reach a deal – thus this new proposal.

Right now, details of TAP’s proposal have not been publicised. The company is under intense pressure at the moment due to the latest ‘golden handshake’ row. This latest scheduled strike is the second in recent weeks: SNPVAC held a two-day strike early in December.
