FLAMENCO FEVER has hit Lagos this month! The city’s fifth Flamenco Festival is now underway and continues until September 16 at Lagos Cultural Centre.
Workshops for the general public to take part in are available and performances from acclaimed professional flamenco dancers are on show.
The opening of the festival takes place tonight, September 15, at 9.30pm, with a performance from the group, El Piano Flamenko. It is rare for the piano to be featured in flamenco productions these days, but it was popular at the beginning of the genre in the 19th century.
On September 16, it is the turn of the workshop students, who will be given the chance to showcase their talent at 3pm.
The festival closes with a performance from the group, Compás Del Sur, at 9.30pm, an innovative flamenco group that combines flamenco guitar and the tabla — Hindu drums, which originate from Northern India.
Single show tickets cost seven euros and a pass for both shows is priced at 10 euros. OAPs, youth card holders and children under 12 are offered a 50 per cent discount. Tickets can be purchased from the Centro Cultural de Lagos, Rua Lançarote de Freitas, Lagos or by calling 282 770 450.
