Five Algarve boroughs running “very high” fire risk

Despite all the bad winter weather, no sooner did the sun come out this week than authorities were warning of “very high” fire risks in five Algarve boroughs.
According to IPMA (the institute of sea and atmosphere), Aljezur, Monchique, Vila do Bispo, Lagos and Portimão are all considered very high risk, along with 17 other boroughs in the districts of Évora, Beja, Setúbal, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Viseu, Porto and Viana do Castelo.
IPMA’s risk scale is determined every day at 1pm on the basis of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of rain received in the last 24 hours.
