Fit for trial

A Portuguese man who was remanded in custody following an incident involving a truck in Lagos in January, which left one woman dead and seven other people injured, is mentally fit for trial, according to the results of a psychological evaluation.

João Martins is formally charged with murder, attempted murder, theft, disobedience and dangerous driving.

According to a report in Correio da Manhã last week, the results of the psychological evaluation, carried out by Portimão’s legal medicine department, state that the man suffers from a light mental deficiency, since birth, which does not impair the perception of reality.

A trial date has not yet been released.
