FISHING FROM the Fortaleza de Sagres has been banned by the Direcção Regional da Cultura, (DRC) the region’s cultural department because of public safety fears.
Only professional fishermen from Vila do Bispo with a license from the DRC are exempt from the provisional ban that was applied on November 17.
Gonçalo Couceiro, director of the DRC, which manages the site, said: “We are awaiting the conclusions of a study to improve the safety conditions of the promontory. “Until then, we will not allow dangerous activities to take place, especially by people who do not know the area well.”
