Fish catches in the Algarve are down by 20%, according to a report from the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGPA).
Last year, 22,000 tonnes of fish were caught, 4,900 tonnes less than in 2010.
Tavira fish market registered the highest drop in the region, with 50.4% less fish catches in 2011, followed by Lagos (-26.3%), Olhão (-19.8%) and Portimão (-13.7%).
The fish market at Vila Real de Santo António was the only one to register an increase on the previous year (+11.3%).
