Fishermen found safe after boat capsizes

A leisure boat that had gone missing on Thursday last week when it was expected to return to Calheta marina in Madeira that evening, was located the next day with the two occupants stranded on the capsized craft but in good health.

The captain of Funchal Port, Félix Marques, said the boat was located by a sea search and rescue team 2.5 miles northeast of Ponta do Pargo, overturned, with the two men sat on the hull. “They were found to be in good health,” he said.

The craft was expected back at the marina on Thursday evening after an underwater fishing expedition. At 12.30am, when it didn’t return, the port authorities were informed and a search and rescue operation began, involving a Navy ship.
