A “miracle” was how witnesses described the survival of a 66-year-old fisherman who fell down a 15-metre cliff in Sagres and landed on a ridge just three metres below, where he was rescued by a team from the Vila do Bispo fire service.
They managed to lift the injured man using ropes and a stretcher and he was taken to hospital with head injuries and grazes to his hands and left hip.
The fire service rescue team were alerted by a relative who was accompanying the fisherman. He had lost his footing and tumbled onto a rocky platform some 12 metres above the water.
The accident happened on a cliff in Candeeiras near the antennae of the Sagres Naval Radio.
