For three weeks in three months, 16 restaurants in Portimão will be serving some of their most delicious fish dishes as part of a brand new gastronomic event entitled ‘Portimão à Mesa’ (Portimão at the Table).
Cavala (mackerel), sargo (sea bream) and carapau (horse mackerel) will be the stars of the show, each being the highlight ingredient of one of the event’s three weeks.
The first stage takes place between Monday and Sunday (February 6-12) next week with all 16 eateries serving their best cavala dishes.
Sargo will be the main ingredient of the event’s second week (March 6-12), while the much-appreciated carapau will be the star of the show during the closing week (April 3-9).
Dishes will vary from each fish being traditionally grilled or fried to more inventive creations such as mackerel burgers.
The event is organised by Portimão council and the 16 restaurants with the support of the town’s tourism association and parish council, business association ACRAL and port authority Docapesca.
The goal is to promote the best fish the town has to offer while also boosting business at eateries during the low season.
Restaurants taking part in the event include Carvi, Kibom, Maria do Mar, O Mané, O Pipo, Os Unidos, Taberna de Portimão, Táscá, Tasc’alado, Dona Barca, Forte e Feio, Meco, Peixarada, Taberna da Maré, Teca da Sardinha and Zizá.
