Members of the Carvoeiro ladies netball team celebrated their first wins on May 28 after beating a team from Browns Sports & Leisure Club in Vilamoura twice.
The teams were playing in the Cosmopolitan Cup competition and were competing against each other and a visiting team from London, CMO Netball.
The visiting team from the UK were the overall winners of the competition beating both the Browns and Carvoeiro teams twice each, however it was the first win for the ladies of Carvoeiro netball club who have been training every Thursday for almost a year.
Amy Dawn Rafis from the team told the Algarve Resident: “It was great to finally win a couple of games and it has really raised the morale of the team who have all been training so hard for these matches. Hopefully this win will encourage more members to join us.”
This was the first tournament for the newly-formed Browns team. A spokesman for the team said: “We started the team to take part in the tournament and will be continuing our training sessions throughout June before the mixed tournament on June 18 and 19. Anyone is welcome to come down and train with us at Browns on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.”
