Rui Machado recorded his first ATP Tour victory ever over Davis Cup team mate and Portuguese No1 Frederico Gil in taking their San Marino Challenger second round clash by a clear cut 6-4, 6-1 margin.
Unfortunately, the Algarvean was then beaten 6-2, 6-2 by quarter-final opponent Robin Haase and will have to continue fighting for direct access to the main draw of the US Open which begins on August 30.
