FIRST LADY Maria José Ritta, wife of Portugal’s President Jorge Sampaio, visited São Brás de Alportel recently to inaugurate a new education centre in Rua 5 de Outubro. Composed of a primary school and nursery, the new centre represents an important investment by the council to improve the borough’s educational facilities.
The new centre boasts 10 classrooms, a library, a theatre studies room, a multipurpose hall, staff room, lounge for meeting with parents, a canteen and sports field – everything required to provide a quality education. The centre is estimated to have cost more than a million euros and has been co-financed by the PRO Algarve Community Programme, supported by European funding.
