First home match for FC Carvoeiro United

Saturday, October 11, is going to be a historic day for the recently-founded FC Carvoeiro United football team – it will be the day that the team plays its first official match at its home stadium.
At a time when money is becoming one of the main driving forces of the sport, this group of football lovers and friends has brought a club into the Algarve arena that simply revels in the “joy of playing”.
“We want to have fun,” club treasurer and player John Wilson told the Resident.
“We are all of different ages and nationalities, but we share our Carvoeiro background and our love of playing football,” said Wilson, who scored the team’s first official goal last weekend during the club’s first official match of the ‘AF Algarve 1ª Divisão’ competition against Imortal, which ended with a 1-1 draw.
Wilson and his teammates are now hoping that locals will come and support them at Estômbar stadium this Saturday at 3pm, when Carvoeiro United takes on Mexilhoeira Grande.
Tickets cost €2.5.
