First day of two-day regional doctors strike paralyses activity in Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo

Another day, another strike. This time it is a new doctors’ strike in the Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo region, led by SIM (the syndicate of independent doctors) which reports 89% adhesion in terms of hospital consultations (meaning most of these have not been going ahead), 90% in terms of planned surgeries (ditto) and 95% in health centres. Another ‘day to forget’ for anyone hoping for a response to their medical condition, in other words. Tomorrow sees exactly the same procedure – with more strikes set to follow, as already reported.
