Fire station in Salir goes ahead

FOLLOWING SOME years of expectation on the part of the people of Salir, Loulé Câmara is finally going ahead with the building of a fire station in the village. The project also foresees the building of a new section to support the Junta de Freguesia.

The fire station will be installed in the Centro de Saúde (health centre) building, within a total construction area of 791sqm. The building has three levels: Level 0 houses the Centro de Saúde and there is access to the main road of Salir; Level 1, the intermediary level, can be accessed by steps from the main street and will include the new support section for the Junta de Freguesia, and Level 2 can be accessed from the street below and will be used to house the new bombeiros facility.

In the space allotted to the bombeiros, the intention is to create an emergency unit with a fleet of fire engines. The unit will house a service counter, bedrooms, bathrooms and a waiting room. The remaining space will be used for the vehicles and will be linked directly to Level 2 via an interior passage.

The new fire station will cost 430,000 euros and represents an important public investment for the local community, offering health and security benefits, which will contribute to an improved quality of life.
