Two officers of the fire service department of Portimão helped a 28-year-old woman give birth at her home when they realised the baby was on its way and there was no time to get to hospital.
The two men safely assisted with the delivery of the child, who had the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck.
The mother and her newborn baby girl, weighing just under three kilos, were taken to Portimão Hospital and are reported to be in good health.
For the two officers, Nuno Mariguesa and Luís Feliciano, it was the second occasion in which they had assisted a pregnant mother en route to hospital.
