Fire in Lagoa

A fire that broke out on dry scrubland behind the Intermarché supermarket in Lagoa on June 29 was put out by 40 firefighters from Lagoa, Messines, Silves and Albufeira and destroyed around 15 hectares.

The bombeiros were assisted by the Civil Protection helicopter in fighting the fire, which started at around 12.40pm and was extinguished at around 3.30pm.

According to a member of the bombeiros, the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Meanwhile, the fire fighting plan for this summer started on July 1. The programme includes 9,210 firefighters, 2,022 vehicles and 41 aircrafts and runs until September 30.
