Fire destroys warehouse near Algarve shopping

A large fire destroyed “a warehouse, around 20 vehicles and a considerable amount of electrical equipment” yesterday (July 26) at a warehouse on an industrial complex close to Algarve Shopping in Guia.

Flames broke out inside the Neoparts warehouse shortly after 7pm.

Drivers on the EN125 saw the smoke within minutes.

One told reporters he heard “several explosions” before making the call to the local firefighters.

The blaze was brought under control within three hours, with firefighters managing to keep it contained to the warehouse.

Albufeira fire chief António Coelho told the Resident nonetheless that some parts of the structure are now “at risk of collapse”.

PJ police are today sweeping the area for clues as to how the fire started.

Commander Coelho added that last night’s firefighting efforts were hampered by “traffic on the EN125 and a lack of nearby water supplies”.

The Resident has contacted Neoparts to be told by one of the people in charge that “now was not a good time to talk”.
