AS PART of the Faro National Capital of Culture 2005 programme, ‘Suomi-ilta’, an afternoon of Finnish culture will take place on November 26, from 5.30pm, at Clube Farense in Faro.
The afternoon will begin with the presentation of epic Finnish poem, Kalevala, which dates back to 1835. This is the first time that the poem has been translated into Portuguese and actors from the Casa da Cultura de Loulé have been chosen to perform excerpts from the brand new translation of this piece. Wilma Timonen of the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, a renowned Finnish musician, will also be present.
During the event, those attending will have the opportunity to taste some traditional Finnish gastronomy, including karjalanpiirakoita, ruisleipää, leipäjuustoa, piparkakkuja, marjateetä, glögiä and lakkalikööriä.
The event is being supported by the Finnish Embassy in Lisbon, the Instituto Ibero-Americano da Finlândia, the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the Algarve University, the Kalevala Society and the Algarven Suomi-Seura Ry (Finnish Association of the Algarve).
