Finn and Foster, rainy day winners

The popular Old Village International Golf Classic was played for the 18th time at Vila Sol Pestana in Vilamoura. There were 45 players of different nationalities for this event, which was played in unbelievably changeable weather – hail, rain and strong winds, but the sun failed to break through.
The course was in reasonably good condition and challenging, particularly in respect of the fairways which were heavy and wet. Everyone was kept “on their toes” and focused. Despite the weather conditions, the competitive element was strong. The winners in the different categories were:

Owners (Ladies) – Pam Foster – 29 points
Owners (Men) – Jim Finn – 31 points
Guests – David Pearce – 30 points
Gross score winner – Kenneth Saint – 21 points
Nearest the pin (Men) – David Pearce
Nearest the pin (Ladies) – Anita Owen
Longest drive (Ladies) – Heather Ward
Longest drive (Men) – Kenneth Saint
Mystery prize (Ladies) – Barbara Head
Mystery prize (Men) – Chris Baty-Symes

Sponsors were thanked for making this an eventful day. During the evening, participants mulled over their achievements (or otherwise) at a dinner provided by Casa do Largo Restaurant in the Old Village, where promises to do it all again next year were overheard.
