Fines kick in for the arbitrary dropping of cigarette butts

The law was published last year, but now fines for the dropping of cigarette butts in the street or on floors of public spaces are kicking in.

Individuals, restaurants, cafés – even public transports – are now under warning. Fines range from €25 to €250.

Business and transport providers are expected to increase the number of available ‘ashtrays’ and repositories. This is a law that mirrors others in UK, Australia and Canada.
