FIVE ALGARVE wines were distinguished at the Wine Masters Challenge 2007, which was held in Estoril recently.
Local wine producers said it was great to be recognised for the quality of wine in the region. “We have exceptional conditions that are difficult to equal, where grape production is possible from a very good balance between sugars and acidity,” said Carlos Silva e Sousa, from Confraria dos Enófilos e Gastronómica do Algarve, an Algarve wine and food association.
Winners included Tapada da Torre 2005, a white wine produced in Portimão, and Terras da Luz 2004, a red from Tavira, which won silver and bronze medals respectively.
