Fine first win for Olhanense

SC Olhanense notched up their first victory of the season with a 2-0 home win against SC Real at the José Arcanjo Stadium last Sunday. Manager Ivo Soares’ starting line-up included youth team defenders Leonardo Lelo and debutant João Correia whilst Hassan, recently reassigned by the club, took his place upfront.

SC Real fielded two former Olhanense players, Sandro Silva and Pedro Dias. The first-half resulted in both teams playing a cautious game with opportunities few and far between.

Undefeated SC Real, from the small town of Queluz in the municipality of Sintra, went a goal behind 20 minutes after the interval when Olhanense’s lively Yeail Kim was pole axed in the penalty area. Léléco slotted the ball home for his second goal of the season.

With a quarter-of-an-hour to go, Stevy Okitokandjo came off the bench much to the delight of the Olhanense faithful. The big Dutchman, who last season scored six goals in 11 outings, has returned from his native country where he was having trials prior to the transfer window closing.

Ten minutes from time and the visitors were down to 10 men when Roberto Filho picked up a second yellow card. It was another Olhanense youth player Nilson Jesus – he joined the fray with 25 minutes to play – who grabbed the decisive second goal in the 90th minute.

Portugal Cup
Olhanense entertain Silves FC in the first eliminator of the Portugal Cup at the José Arcanjo Stadium Stadium, Olhão on Sunday – kick-off 5pm. Silves FC, who play in the Algarve District Championship, will be the underdogs, but cup competitions are great levellers and Olhanense will be looking for a decent cup run to gain confidence in their quest to move up the Campeonato de Portugal standings.
