Finding the perfect wine for Indian food

Members of the Algarve Wine Society came together for their September meeting at the Real Indiana Restaurant in Vilamoura on September 15.

The aim of the event was to dispel the myth that wine does not “go with” or complement Indian food and members were able to sample a variety of different dishes.

Dishes of prawn puri were matched with rosé wine while chicken korma, lamb jalfrezi and aloo gobi were all sampled with various wines by members with the verdict being that wine and Indian food do mix well.

The final events in the Algarve Wine Society autumn calendar will include a one week trip for 38 members to Piemonte at the end of September, a tasting of Campolargo Bairrada wines at the EVA hotel in Faro on October 15 and a visit to the Nova Cortiça cork factory in São Brás de Alportel on November 3, to be repeated on November 8.

Membership in the Algarve Wine Society is at its upper limit, and there is a waiting list, but if you would like further information, please contact Larry Hampton by emailing [email protected]
