Final Easter road death tally… 17

All through the mini-break for Easter the number of deaths on Portugal’s roads has been climbing ominously. This morning reports were suggesting 14 people had died; newspapers had 15. Now, at the end of Monday – hours before the road safety campaign conducted by PSP and GNR police is due to be wound down – SIC television news says 17 people have lost their lives in various tragic accidents. This time last year, the same Easter holidays saw only five deaths.
