Portimão FC saw out the old year with their worst Liga Orangina performance of the season. The team was never in the hunt as visitors Oliveirense dominated throughout the 13th championship round encounter and should have lost by more than the minimum 1-0 margin.
Manager Carlos Mozer is hopeful that his men will return to their previous form by the time the Portimão team take on Trofense this Sunday afternoon.
Prior to that first league away match of 2012, Portimonense showed little improvement in the opening League Cup third phase group tie at home against Penafiel.
Shorn of the makeweight Tristan Plummer and Paqueta who are due to leave the club but also without injured captain Ricardo Pessoa, the Mozer eleven created few chances and went down to a 53rd minute Coronas solo effort.
Portimonense are yet to play top tier Nacional da Madeira and Sporting Braga away and now look unlikely to reach the competition’s semi-final stage.
