Around 15,500 needy people in the Algarve will benefit from 170 tonnes of food collected by the region’s food bank during their latest campaign.
More than 36,000 volunteers across the country gave their time last weekend to help in the national fight against hunger, collecting a total of 2,950 tonnes of food that will be distributed to 329,000 people and 2,047 social solidarity institutions in Portugal.
The Food Bank campaign was held in association with several of the largest supermarket chains in Portugal.
Until Sunday (December 4) those wishing to contribute to the cause can still do so by purchasing food vouchers for needy families registered with the Social Security at the Pingo Doce, Jumbo, Pão de Açúcar, Lidl and Continente supermarkets.
