THE OXFORD Fiddle Group played foot tapping jigs, catchy hornpipes, airs and laments to audiences at three sold out venues last week.
The first concert was held at the São Brás Museum, organised by the Friends of São Brás Museum, followed by The Mariners Bar in Portimão and finishing at Fábrica do Inglês in Silves with a ceilidh (dance), jointly organised by the St Andrew’s and St Patrick’s Societies of the Algarve.
Much of the group’s English, Irish, Scottish and American repertoire can be heard on the group’s current CD Bonny Kate (visit www.oxfordfiddle.co.uk).
Playing in the Algarve were eight of the 30 members of the group, Jed Mugford, Chris Mills, Wendy Creber, Adrian Broadway, Tom Bell-Richards, Christine Ellis, Peter Day and Marilyn Mills, who are soon to embark on a five-day tour of South West Ireland, followed by some dates in Germany later in the year with the rest of the group.
