Thursday’s Covid bulletin – registering just one death and 436 new cases – is essentially one showing Portugal’s ‘good news’ continues. The epidemiological situation is calm, hospitals are down to lowest numbers for many months (244 people in total, 70 in intensive care), and recoveries continue apace. The latest tally of new infections has bumped the national ‘active case’ total up slightly, but this is not translating into increased pressure on hospitals, possibly because the vast majority of at-risk age groups have been covered by one, if not two, shots of the vaccines.
