Visitors to Apolónia Supermarket in Almancil over Christmas were able to obtain advice and tips on how to protect themselves and their property from criminal activity during the festive season.
The ‘12 Days of Christmas Crime Prevention Display’ was held by the GNR Loulé and Safe Communities Algarve association.
Officers Daniel Dias and Nuno Vitorino from the GNR’s Safe Residence Programme, along with David Thomas from the association, were on hand to deal with enquiries throughout the two-day event.
A steady stream of visitors asking questions ranging from dangerous/noisy dogs to how to register with the Safe Residence Programme was recorded by organisers.
David Thomas said: “These types of displays are important in showing how the community and police engage and collaborate in preventing crime. This is the third year that SCA and the GNR have held a display outside Apolónia and it is interesting from the enquiries raised by visitors that there is a general perception of a decreasing level of crime in the Algarve, reflecting the actual decrease in crime reports during this period.”
