The Sardine Festival, one of Portimão’s largest annual traditions, takes place this year between August 6 and August 15 and, as usual, the venue will be the city’s Park of Fairs and Exhibitions.
The event will, of course, boast a plethora of sardines, an obligatory presence at various tascas in the enclosure. But it will also see entertainment from artists such as David Fonseca, Martinho da Vila, Rui Veloso, Bonga, Santamaria, Sérgio Godinho, Anjos, Mariza, Clã and Banda Eva, who will provide the musical fun for the duration of the 10 days.
There will also be a gastronomic feast; apart from sardines, visitors will be able to sample other traditional dishes representative of regional Algarvean cooking.
Meanwhile, in Alvor, between July 30 and August 8, visitors can enjoy the shellfish festival, containing oysters and other fish from the River Alvor. The festival opens at 6.30pm and closes at 00.30am daily.
