Ballet lovers were treated to a wonderful staging of Sherazade by the Ballet Nacional da Ópera de Kiev (see photo on page 1) earlier this week as part of the ongoing É Verão! É Portimão festival. Around 50 ballerinas took to the stage at Portimão’s municipal auditorium and thrilled the audience with their interpretation of this classic work.
The festival continued on August 4 and 5 with the Companhia de Dança Flamenca de Madrid performing Bizet’s Carmen. On August 19 and 20, the Ballet Nacional de Krasnodar from Russia will perform the premiere of their Grande Musical Russo. Music, dance, song and humour combine in this rich and colourful folklore spectacular, featuring more than 55 performers and a live orchestra. On August 26 and 27, Arrabal Tangos, a dancers’ collective, perform the tango – the famously melancholic dance, born in 1880s in Argentina.
The festival ends with a performance from Os Cossacos do Cáucaso from the Ballet Nacional do Cáucaso, on September 2 and 3. This company features 23 dancers and seven musicians who dance and perform traditional Cossack dances.
Tickets for all the shows are available from the Auditório Municipal de Portimão, Agência de Viagens Abreu in Faro and Portimão, via www.ticketline.pt or from FNAC shops. You can also reserve tickets by calling 917 210 389.
