Ferry tender cancelled due to “errors”

Madeira’s regional government has canceled the public tender that was launched for a new ferry service between Funchal and Portimão as the original notice published in the state newspaper Diário da República contained substantial errors.
In other words, it contained “inaccuracies that need to be addressed. Publication is invalid and thus has no effect.”

One of the mistakes is the mention of a subsidy of up to €18 million for a three-year deal, double the €9 million actually budgeted.

The money would go to help the company that would manage the ferry link.

Indeed, it was due to “huge losses” that Naviera Arms pulled out of the previous ferry service that linked Portimão, Funchal and Las Palmas (Spain) between 2008 and 2012.

The errors are due to be corrected and a new – and this time hopefully correct – tender due to be launched soon.
