The small bridge linking one side of Ferragudo to the other has been closed off to traffic by Lagoa council as it is believed to be “at risk of collapse”.
The decision came after a routine inspection by council technicians.
Traffic has since been diverted.
The bridge will remain closed until the council has built a new structure to replace it.
A statement suggests this will only take three weeks.
