Female lawyer arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into prison

Prison guards in Paços de Ferreira may now feel they have seen everything: a female lawyer, aged 40, was detained as she entered Vale do Sousa jail last Monday, and found to be in possession of “two blocks of hashish (of around 100 gms), phone chargers and syringes”.

The woman is believed to have an law office in Porto and be a “frequent visitor” to two inmates, says national tabloid Correio da Manhã.

She was apparently “being investigated” on suspicions that she has been “introducing drugs and other objects to prison establishments where people she represents are being detained”, said the paper.

The woman was made an official suspect (‘arguida’) and released on the understanding that she will appear in court when called.

The case has been reported to the Law Society, adds CM.
