A total of 23 suspected arsonists have been arrested in Portugal so far this year, announced the criminal police Polícia Judiciária.
A 19-year-old female student suspected of having started a forest fire in Tomar on July 30 was the latest arrest. It is believed by the authorities that the youngster used petrol to set fire to dry scrubland which ended up destroying 1.2 hectares of forest area.
