AN ANNUAL Lisbon fair dedicated to handicrafts, interior design and tableware opens on September 3 in Carnide. The Feira da Luz takes place until September 25 at the Largo da Luz, from 11am to midnight.
The Largo da Luz was originally a place of religious pilgrimage, with a horse fair developing on the site from the 16th century onwards. By the 20th century, the fair began to take on a more ceramic and pottery nature, owing to the ceramic factories that dominated the area.
These days, with the factories gone, the fair has diversified into other areas including leisure, tableware for restaurants and bars, handicrafts, tapestries and carpets, cleaning implements, home furnishings and interior decoration. There is also an area exclusively dedicated to clothes and leather goods, situated at either side of the Luz gardens.
