FC Porto won their first UEFA Youth League title after beating two-time winner Chelsea in the final, winning 3-1 in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Portuguese side took the lead at the 17th minute with midfielder Fábio Vieira writing his name on the score sheet just a few minutes after forward Fábio Silva failed to score what looked like a certain goal after he had the keeper beaten.
Chelsea tried to mount another comeback like in previous matches in the competition and was able to level the score eight minutes into the second half thanks to a Daishawn Redan header, but the Dragons answered almost immediately with a go-ahead goal by Diogo Queirós.
The final blow came at the 75th minute when Afonso Sousa gave Porto an undisputed 3-1 lead which the team led by coach Mário Silva secured until the end of the match.
The victory was the club’s first in the competition – the youth football version of the UEFA Champions League – and the first for any Portuguese side. Benfica reached the final in 2014 and 2017 but lost both matches to Barcelona (3-0) and RB Salzburg (2-1).
