Faux Passos

Prime Minister Passos Coelho is paying dearly for suggesting new tax hikes could come if the Constitutional Court vetoes clauses in the 2014 State Budget (see story on page 6). His popularity “dropped abruptly”, reports Correio da Manhã, with Socialist leader António José Seguro now leading the polls when it comes to people’s voting intentions. Needless to say, Seguro got even more popular when he announced this week that a Socialist government would instantly reduce IVA in restaurants to the old level of 13%.
