Fatacil sees return of Portugal’s top rock band Xutos e Pontapés

Lagoa municipality is again preparing the “best Fatacil ever”, with novelties in the pipeline and the biggest musical line-up yet, including the return of Portugal’s most famous rock band Xutos e Pontapés.

“The challenge is to raise the bar and expectations year after year,” Lagoa mayor Francisco Martins told reporters at the event’s official presentation on Friday (July 14) at Carvoeiro’s amphitheatre.

Last year was the first time Fatacil was organised by the local council following the closure of municipal company Fatasul. “Some said we couldn’t do it, but it turned out to be one of the best fairs ever,” Martins said.

This year’s Fatacil is taking place between August 18 and 27, with novelties including new turnstiles that will help calculate visitor numbers, new LED lighting, and a 1,000-space car park near the Aldi supermarket.

Lagoa will also be presenting a project to turn the Fatacil fairgrounds into an “urban park”.

Fatacil features everything from local crafts and businesses promoting their work to all kinds of delicious food and regional delicacies as well as a long list of entertainment, concerts and equestrian shows. Around 700 exhibitors are expected this year.

The event is visited by an average of around 200,000 every year and is costing €850,000 to organise this year.

This year’s musical acts include Agir (August 18), Richie Campbell (19), João Pedro Pais (20), GNR (21), Dengaz (22), Quim Barreiros (23), Carminho and Tiago Bettencourt (24), Xutos e Pontapés (25), Matias Damásio (26), and DAMA (27).

Daily tickets cost €3.50, while a 10-day pass is available for €20. There is also a daily ticket for a family of four costing €12.50.

Doors open at 6pm and close at 1am.
