FATACIL breaks 20-year-old record

Lagoa’s hugely popular FATACIL fair is already breaking records even though it still has a few more days to go. According to organisers, around 20,000 people visited the fair on Monday (August 22) – the highest number of visitors registered in a single day in the last 20 years.

And the reason for this was singing sensation Agir, one of Portugal’s most successful contemporary singers, who seems to attract huge crowds wherever he performs.

Whether the record will be broken again remains to be seen.

The fair ends this Sunday, with some big names yet to take the stage such as Rita Guerra (Thursday, 25), Mickael Carreira (Friday, 26), Ana Moura (Saturday, 27) and Rui Veloso (Sunday, 28).

FATACIL is an annual summer fair that features everything from local crafts and businesses promoting their work to all kinds of delicious food and regional delicacies as well as a long list of entertainment, concerts and equestrian shows.

It is considered one of the Algarve’s largest summer events. This year, it underwent a makeover as €150,000 was invested to renovate the fairground and bring it to the “next level”.

Daily tickets cost €3.50, while a 10-day pass is available for €20. Admission is free for children under 12. Arrive early if you need to purchase tickets.

Doors open at 6pm and close at 1am. Concerts on the main stage begin at 10.30pm.
