Fat cat goes on strict diet

Socrates the cat has been put on a strict diet after he ballooned to double his size.

The supersized pet weighs in at a staggering 10.1kg and has now been given 100 days to get down to a healthier 4.5kg.

Cheese and onion crisps were said to be the blame for Socrates’ excess weight and his owner Bill Duncan from Newcastle said his pet will have to cut back on his favourite snack.

From now on, the feline will be limited to two 50g helpings of special diet food a day which Mr Duncan hopes will give him more get-up-and-go.

Five-year-old “Socs” joins eight other finalists in charity PDSA’s Pet Fit Club where owners help their animals shift the podge to improve their life ‘pet-spectancy.’
