Fashioning Portugal’s future

Yesterday (Thursday) marked the start of Lisbon’s ModaLisboa fashion event with this year’s theme being Freedom, attracting buyers, designers and foreign press.

Representing the best among Portugal’s growing fashion designers, the event showcases Ana Salazar, Pedro Pedro and Pelcor, which designs and makes its unique cork creations in the heart of the Algarve at São Brás de Alportel.

With a continually evolving line of products, this year Pelcor has produced a limited edition bag, called Easy Bag, a portable, foldable and durable bag which displays the unique qualities of cork.

ModaLisboa catwalk shows run until Sunday, March 11 in Lisbon. Visit dailymodalisboa.blogspot.com and www.pelcor.com for more information.

Meanwhile, Fátima Lopes, a native of Madeira who began her fashion career with her own shop in Lisbon back in 1995, recently opened Paris Fashion Week with her ready to wear collection

at the Hotel des Invalides.

As a premier designer on Portugal’s fashion scene, Fátima Lopes once wowed the fashion set in 2000 with a million dollar gold and diamond bikini, modelling the creation herself which earned her a reputation for audacity.
