A FASHION SHOW is to take place on Saturday, April 9 at 4pm at Loulé’s Centro de Eventos in Expoalgarve, NERA, to raise money for the Associação Oncológia do Algarve (AOA), a charitable organisation devoted to the prevention, identification and treatment of all types of cancer.
The ‘Simplesmente Mulher’ (Simply Woman) event has been organised to raise money for the operation of the Algarve’s first mobile breast screening service that will be starting this summer (see article on page 9).
Certainly no ordinary fashion show, this promises to be a very special event for many reasons. The models will be women who have all been affected by breast cancer. None of them have ever taken part in a fashion show before, but are determined to show that they have been able to achieve quality of life, even under adverse circumstances.
A selection of evening dresses, swimwear and lingerie will be modelled during the event, thanks to the support of various fashion stores in Faro, Olhão and Loulé. Anita e Amoena, a company specialising in products for women who have undergone mastectomies, is also providing assistance.
Celebrity guests
Famous Portuguese singer and poet, Simone de Oliveira, is to be guest of honour at the event and well-known Algarve-based fashion designer, José Pacheco, will also be lending his support to the occasion.
