Faro’s old Santa Maria Hospital reopens to take in non-Covid patients

Faro’s Santa Maria Hospital reopened on Monday under the management of the Algarve University Hospital Board (CHUA) in order to take in up to 28 non-Covid patients from the Algarve’s public hospitals.

Owned by private health group Grupo Lusíadas, the hospital had been closed since 2018.

The decision to reopen it aims to free up more space for Covid-19 patients at the region’s public hospitals, similar to how Lagos’ São Gonçalo Hospital recently opened up room for non-Covid patients (click here).
