Faro shops go back in time

CLOTHES FROM the 19th and early 20th centuries are on display in the windows of various shops in downtown Faro until October 22 as part of an exhibition aimed at reviving interest in this traditional shopping area.

Underskirts, waistcoats, corsets, lacy petticoats and traditional shoes are just some of the pieces of clothing to be seen, not forgetting the legendary bioco, a cloak that completely covered the wearer’s head, which was banned by the Civil Governor of the Algarve in 1892.

The exhibition has been organised by Comércio da Baixa de Faro in conjunction with the Grupo Folclórico de Faro and the João de Rosa Primary School, which have loaned the items to the shops.
