FARO CÂMARA has presented its plan to prevent and combat fires in Pontal, Ludo and Gambelas, areas that constitute the “green heart” of Faro. Currently private lands, the Câmara is hoping to acquire them for its Faro Nature Park.
The Câmara has improved its monitoring systems and cleared the areas as part of a summer operation that will continue until the end of September. Aside from ongoing fire prevention measures the operation involves increased vigilance, round the clock prevention, extra staffing and equipment as well as rapid response and intervention in the event of a fire.
Bombeiros equipped with binoculars and mobiles phones will inspect the area from watchtowers. There will also be 24-hour surveillance from young volunteers recruited under the “Young Forestry Volunteers” programme.
