The iconic building – whose construction dates back to the beginning of the 16th century – will now have a lift to access the first floor and create access to all spaces.
The Municipality of Faro has awarded the Sociedade Ambartrans a contract to improve the accessibility conditions of its Museum and the working conditions of its restoration area.
The intervention, whose contract was signed at the beginning of August, is valued at €419,012.37 (plus VAT) and will be executed within 180 days from the consignment date.
This endeavour aims to improve working conditions and accessibility in this historic building located in the Vila Adentro – the former Convent of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, whose construction dates back to the beginning of the 16th century – by installing a lift to access the first floor, repaving, especially in the cloister area, and creating access to all rooms, either through ramps or by remodelling the pavement.
At the same time, new workshops will be created for the restoration service, which will considerably improve working conditions for professionals.
In addition to these interventions, the contract also foresees diversified works, namely the repair and replacement of baseboards, painting, cleaning gutters and drains, occasional repair of waterproofing, maintenance of carpentry, metalwork, maintenance and replacement of sanitaryware, taps, and communication equipment, among others.
