Faro Municipal Council hacked

The municipality says services will be normalised “over the next few days”.

Faro’s Municipal Council confirms having been the target of a computer attack that affected all of its servers, services and users over the weekend.

This Ransomware incident, recorded on Saturday night, November 19, jeopardised the normal functioning of services, which the municipality says will be progressively resumed over the next few days.

The attack has already been reported to the authorities, namely to the “National Cybersecurity Center (CNC), Judiciary Police (PJ) and Attorney General’s Office (PGR)”.

The Municipality of Faro regrets the attack and asks for the understanding of its citizens and entities as they may encounter constraints over the next few days while the municipality works on restoring its back-office and e-mail services, which are currently inactive.

The municipality promises to inform the public once the “normal functioning of services” is restored.
