Faro-Madrid air link already back in business

Flights between Faro and Madrid are back in business early this year thanks to Spanish airline Air Nostrum.

The first flight took off today (March 18) and schedules will run until October.

Air Nostrum ran flights last year, but started later and offered only three per week.

Now, it has upped its offer to five per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) – and with Air Nostrum jumping the gun, another Spanish operator Vueling has caught the ‘red eye’, introducing its flights connecting Barcelona with the Algarve in May.

Vueling’s low-cost schedules will run three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – again until October.

Algarve tourism boss Desidério Silva has welcomed the news, saying it is a sign of “Spanish tourists’ interest in the Algarve, and the success of the routes” in general.

Silva also reiterated that 2015 was a “historic year” for Faro Airport, which registered a record 6.4 million passengers – a 6.4% increase compared to 2014.
